David Bowie: RIP

Wow, what a depressing start to the year! The news today of the death of David Bowie is another blow to the music world. It’s been less than 3 weeks and we have lost two icons of the British music world, first Lemmy and now David Bowie. One of the first chart songs I can remember hearing as a child was Jean Genie and I can hear within it the roots of what I enjoy about metal music.

The only music by Bowie I have available to listen to is a double CD of live songs recorded in 1974 called David Live. It’s not a favourite album of mine I’ve got to admit. However, the death of any icon forces you to re-evaluate their life and contribution to your own. He did produce some great tunes that have played their part in the soundtrack of millions of lives, including my own.
